About Notify NYC
Notify NYC is New York City’s official source for information about emergency events and important City services. The program operates out of New York City Emergency Management’s (NYCEM) Watch Command Unit, where a team of dedicated professionals monitor emergency activity in New York City and the surrounding metropolitan area 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Notify NYC began as a pilot program in 2007, originally operating in select areas of New York City before expanding to a citywide notification system in 2009. The program has since grown to over 550,000 subscribers and has continually improved both its use of technology and user experience based on feedback provided by its subscribers. In September 2017, the Notify NYC Mobile Application was launched. The mobile app uses geo-location technology to ensure New Yorkers are informed in real-time about incidents in their immediate area.
The goal for Notify NYC is to provide information you want to receive, the way you want to receive it. Enrollment is always free. Subscribers can receive notifications through multiple channels, such as email, text, Twitter, mobile push notifications and more!
