Notify NYC - Travel Advisory - 1/9-1/10 (CW)
Notification issued 01-08-2024 at 19:16. The NYC Emergency Management Department has issued a travel advisory for Tuesday, 1/9 to Wednesday, 1/10. New Yorkers are advised to prepare for heavy rain, strong to damaging winds, and moderate coastal flooding. The National Weather Service has issued a citywide Flood Watch from 6 PM tomorrow to 12 PM Wednesday. 2-3 inches of heavy rain is expected Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, which may result in widespread minor flooding of roadways and properties, including basements. Heavy rainfall is expected to end prior to the Wednesday morning commute, but residual flooding will be possible. A High Wind Warning is in effect for Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island, with a Wind Advisory in the Bronx and Manhattan, from 6 PM tomorrow to 6 AM Wednesday. Winds of 30-40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph are expected, highest along the coast. Downed trees and limbs with widespread power outages will be possible. A Coastal Flood Warning is in effect for south Queens from 5-9 AM Wednesday, with a Coastal Flood Advisory for Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Staten Island from 5-10 AM Wednesday. 1-3 feet of inundation along vulnerable shorelines may result in flooding of properties, closed roadways, and flood-damaged vehicles, especially in Jamaica Bay. During periods of heavy rain, seek higher ground or, if in a basement, move to a higher floor. The National Weather Service has issued the following: What: Coastal Flood Advisory Where: Manhattan, Staten Island, Brooklyn When: 5:00 AM until 10:00 AM on Wednesday, 1/10 Hazards: Inundation of 1-2 feet above ground level may cause minor flooding of shore roads and/or properties. Preparedness Actions: - Avoid driving through or coming in contact with flood waters. Six inches of fast flowing water can knock you off your feet, and as little as one foot of rushing water can carry away a car. There could be pollutants in the water or other hazards that you cannot see. - Coastal flood waters could damage your vehicle. Move your car to higher ground, and wash your car thoroughly if it makes contact with flood waters. - New York City residents, please call 311 if you encounter flooding that makes roads impassable, causes property damage, or persists for more than 48 hours.
