Notify NYC - Weather Alert 7/12 - 7/13 (CW)

Notification issued 07-12-2024 at 1:00 PM. The NYC Emergency Management Department advises New Yorkers to prepare for heavy rain and possible flooding today. Showers and thunderstorms are forecast to become more widespread and intense late this afternoon through around mid-day tomorrow. Lingering showers and residual flooding will be possible through the early evening. The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch in effect until 6 PM on 7/13. A total of 1-2 inches with locally higher amounts up to 3 inches of rain is possible. Low lying and poor drainage areas will be particularly vulnerable to flooding. Periods of heavy rain may cause flooding in the city, including highways, streets, basements, and underpasses. During periods of heavy rain causing flooding, seek higher ground or, if in a basement, move to a higher floor. Heavy rain may create dangerous travel conditions: - New Yorkers are advised to limit travel and stay inside during periods of severe weather. - If you must travel, use mass transit, exercise caution, and allow for additional travel time as delays are expected. Do not drive your vehicle or walk into areas where water covers the roadway as the water depth may be too great to allow you to cross safely. - If you are outside during a thunderstorm, avoid open areas and try to seek shelter indoors.
